Under the general direction of the Senior Transportation Engineer (Maintenance Engineering) and direct collaboration with the District CIP Coordinator, the incumbent performs culvert inspections, complaint/project reviews, mapping and assists in updating and maintaining the Culvert Program's database for all culverts within District 03 boundaries. The incumbent also operates iPAD's with GPS antennae to identify locations of all culvert systems in District 03. This position requires fieldwork and travel on short notice. The positions assignment maybe subject to rotation, changes in work shift, work hours and workdays. Travel is required.

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. While at their base operation, incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting and be required to sit or stand for prolonged periods. Field work is required where exposure to high-speed traffic will occur. Incumbent must follow all policies, procedures and safe working practices. Incumbent will also be required to travel and work outdoors and may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces and/or extreme heat and cold. Required to work in a wide range of sometimes extreme conditions, including heat up to 120 degrees, cold to -15 degrees, strong winds, rain, sleet, and snow. May be required to work overtime due to storms, emergencies, special work projects, or when a Supervisor deems that it is in the best interest of the State to work overtime. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.
