The
Networking Services Administrator provides support for networking, systems, and security services. The Networking Services Administrator provides support for networking, systems, and security services. Maintain and monitor all aspects of all MCIU-managed network infrastructure, including design, implementation, management, troubleshooting, and documentation. Manage Internet connectivity and provide all aspects of user support for all networked MCIU locations, as well as LEAs who rely on MCIU-hosted services. Maintain network switching and routing, wireless, and security infrastructures, while fostering data collection practices that help ensure the completeness and availability of all server-based systems. Keep abreast of industry trends and developments in technology in order to aid and assist MCIU’s standing as a leader in technology services.
Qualifications: - Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in the appropriate field (Bachelor’s degree requirement may be waived with significant experience in the specialized area of the position). Master’s degree preferred.
- Certificate(s) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, Cybersecurity, and/or industry-recognized related areas preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the appropriate field, leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Expertise (includes one or more of the following):
- Understanding of VoIP protocols and ability to troubleshoot VoIP system issues.
- Experience providing highly available infrastructure services
- Advanced understanding of TCP/IP, common networking ports and protocols, traffic flow, system administration, OSI model, defense-in-depth layers, and common security elements.
- Hands-on experience analyzing high volumes of logs, network data, and other attack artifacts in support of incident investigations.
- Experience with vulnerability scanning solutions.
- Interfaces frequently with customers and stakeholders.
- Very specialized skills in the area of concentration proven by work experience, certificates, etc.
- Autonomous nature of work performed.
- Knowledge of:
- Microsoft enterprise architecture with the ability to function as a consultant to the business during the design of information systems to support business operations.
- Enterprise storage architectures (e.g., SAN storage) types and networks.
- Active Directory, Windows DNS, NPS implementation and troubleshooting
- Linux operating systems, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Practical application of common routed and routing protocols.
- Strong background in switches, Cisco/JunOS, and routers required.
- Precise lab testing capabilities, including generating test plans based on technical requirements.
- Ability to work as a member of a team, follow directions, and follow through with completed assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and read and understand highly technical documents.
- Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills; ability to use technology to work effectively.
- Valid driver's license and safe driving record without major traffic violations; travel to school buildings and LEAs throughout Montgomery County is required.
- Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
Duties & Responsibilities: - Designs, analyzes, implements, and manages physical and virtual network and server infrastructure and data storage systems to accommodate needs and comply with information technology policies, regulations, and guidelines; ensures the functionality and operational stability of network and server infrastructure and systems.
- Design, develop, test, implement, troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain infrastructure and server technology, including but not limited to:
- Networking equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and any other specialty network devices).
- Servers (virtual and physical), SANs, and appliances.
- Present and future client/server operating systems.
- Directory Services, LDAP integrations.
- Backup and disaster recovery.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting tools, antivirus remediation, and security best practices.
- Perform and/or oversee server operating system and software application installation and upgrades.
- Maintain and verify backup servers/systems.
- Lead the management of security solutions, including firewall, XDR/MDR software, and intrusion detection systems in conjunction with the Supervisor of Networking Services.
- Administer the management of all network hardware and related equipment.
- Oversee network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Administer and maintain end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
- Perform industry best practices on server, security, backups, and recovery.
- Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
- Develop, document, and train on hardware installation and troubleshooting procedures.
- Provide Infrastructure Services to clients onsite/remotely within the MCIU services footprint.
- Notify users of system changes and downtime.
- Lead and manage cybersecurity initiatives for the IU and clients, including supporting incident responses.
- Continuously expand upon current skill set by attending required training.
- Provide immediate communications of all issues involving security breaches or breakdowns, in addition to any other areas as defined by the Supervisor of Networking Services and the OTS Directors.
- Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored, or accessed by the systems.
- Maintain system end-user documentation and business rules.
- Maintain current knowledge and a base understanding of internal and external client systems and new technologies.
- Preserve and maintain good relationships with MCIU and LEAs, technical staff, vendors, and statewide counterparts.
- Provide regular status reports on current projects and initiatives to the Supervisor of Networking Services.
- Project a positive image of the IU and its programs and services.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the OTS Directors.
Location: The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7 hours/day, 12 months (260-262 days/year)
Salary: $74,375/year - $87,500/year (T1)
