Job Description

The Forest Stewards Guild, a national organization of foresters and allied natural resource professionals, is dedicated to practicing and promoting responsible forestry as a means of sustaining the integrity of forest ecosystems and the human communities dependent upon them. We use innovative, science-based solutions to meet the challenges of forest conservation and management. The Guild has over 700 members, over half of whom are professionals who manage over 42 million acres of forestland in the United States and Canada. The Guild maintains regional offices in New Mexico, Maine, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oregon, Colorado, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Job Description

The Forest Stewards Guild seeks a detail-oriented, collaborative, and individually motivated Southwest Project Coordinator to support community wildfire resilience, community engagement, and forest stewardship across central and northern New Mexico. This position will support two cornerstone efforts - the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) in the Greater Santa Fe Fireshed and the Fire Adapted New Mexico Learning Network (FACNM) - working closely with the Fireshed Coordinator and the Fire Adapted Communities Coordinator.

Key responsibilities will include conducting Home Hazard Assessments for private landowners and residents, assisting the Fireshed Coordinator with facilitation of fuels mitigation projects, supporting the Fireshed Ambassador Network to expand peer-to-peer community engagement, and supporting statewide wildfire adaptation through the FAC program.

In addition to program-specific duties, the Coordinator will provide general support across the Southwest office, assisting with event preparation, communications, and day-to-day project needs. This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, adaptable, and enthusiastic about both community-facing work and behind-the-scenes coordination. • Support planning, outreach, and logistics for FAC workshops, trainings, and peer-learning exchanges.

  • Help manage network communications, including newsletters, resource sharing, and website updates.

  • Work with the FAC Coordinator and Partners to support the development of a statewide Fire Adaptation Ambassadors network.

  • Support the FAC Coordinator with development of a Southwest Resilience strategy which will guide the overall direction of the NM FAC Learning Network, NM Women Owning Woodlands, and other forest and fire resilience programming over the next five years.
