POSITION DESCRIPTION: Special Programs Coordinator - Adult Education (Non-Credit)

DEPARTMENT: Adult Education - Economic & Business Development

PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River, MA

REPORTS TO: Associate Director - Adult Education

POSITION STATUS: This is an MCCC/MTA, full-time, grant-funded, unit position with benefits. This position is subject to grant budget appropriations.

SALARY: Minimum hiring salary $63,159 - $75,089 - Labor Grade 4 - actual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and in accordance with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which may result in a higher salary than the stated range. Please refer to the New Hire Tables in the CBA for more information.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Education and Career Advisor assists students in developing, monitoring and fulfilling an Education and Career Plan that aligns student interests, goals, and abilities with a career, and outlines the steps needed to prepare for that career. The Advisor assumes primary responsibility for onboarding new students, which includes intake, orientation and placement assessment. The Advisor also works with students while enrolled in the program - administers pre and post assessments, monitors student progress and attendance and provides referral services as needed to support student retention. The Advisor also provides a continuum of advising services that supports student success and transition to next steps and monitors post exit outcomes. The Education and Career Advisor collaborates with other advisors and program staff on programmatic matters and student learning opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Informs outreach and recruitment strategies to ensure community access to the program
  • Conducts information and intake sessions with prospective students
  • Administers and evaluates placement tests and assists in appropriate academic placement
  • Orients new students to the program's policies and activities
  • Assists students with transition to concurrent and/or next steps in their education and career training experience
  • Maintains confidential student files including a record of advising notes and activities
  • Follows up every quarter with current and former students to monitor progress towards goals
  • Refers students to college and community resources as needed to support student persistence and success
  • Utilizes community/WIOA/college collaborations to support student retention and progress
  • Enters intake, assessment, attendance, and outcome data into the LACES system
  • Provides basic technology support to students
  • Serves as the program's ASA Coordinator
  • Attends program, staff and departmental and college meetings and events
  • Works closely with other Education and Career Advisors to assist students in transitioning to next steps
  • Complies with DESE and college submission deadlines
  • Serves pm the Program Development Team and participates in program continuous improvement
  • Attends professional development activities at the level assigned each year to maintain working knowledge of the position and stay current with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Participates in college and community meetings as directed
  • Demonstrates a sense of professionalism and consistently reflects Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community
  • Focuses on the Commonwealth's Equality Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions

Job Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Human Services or related field;
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in education, advising, human services, business administration and/or case management, preferably with non-traditional adult learners which may include college registration, academic advisement, career development, career experience, training, audio/visual or graphic production, grant administration, program/project management, event planning, administrative work in an academic environment, or personal computer operations
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience shall be considered
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with data in a student information system
  • Flexibility to rearrange priorities as needed and work two evenings per week
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with Microsoft 0365 suite, telecommunications tools and online platforms
  • Strong interest in helping adult learners problem solve and realize their educational and career goal

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to speak/communication in a second language
  • Experience working with student who have disabilities
